• Alert: Johnson County Schools will be closed tomorrow, February 21 and Friday, February 22 due to continued widespread illness among our students and employees. In making this decision we have consulted with our local health care professionals. The number of patients being seen has not diminished and we feel that returning to school this week could extend this wave of flu and other illnesses. We have continued and will continue to disinfect our schools, and we commend our custodial employees for all of their hard work. We hope that all of you who are sick feel better soon, and that the rest of you remain healthy. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Principal's Message

Welcome to the 2018-2019 academic year.  Words do not adequately express how excited I am to become part of the Laurel Elementary family.  I look forward to getting to know each student and their family in our school.

It is my desire to create and maintain a safe and happy learning environment for our students.  The faculty, staff and I are geared up and ready to work with the students, parents and guardians of this community.  While public education is our calling, there is another important ingredient in the development of our young humans-YOU!  Parent/guardian involvement is critical in educating today’s children.  Becoming an active member of your student’s education is an investment that will pay off for many years to come.

Our staff is highly qualified and works hard to create rigorous and appropriate learning opportunities for the students.  As the principal, I will work hard to make sure the school is a safe and welcoming learning environment.  As the parent, I ask that you would be involved daily in your child’s education by talking with him or her about the day, going through the communication binder and encouraging reading outside of school.  Parents, guardians and grandparents are always welcome at Laurel Elementary.  We have a large variety of opportunities for you to volunteer your time and energy and we hope you will participate in a variety of class and school wide activities.

Please feel free to contact your child’s teacher or me with any questions, suggestions or concerns you may have related to your student.  As we work to improve our school, your input is valuable to us.  You may contact me by phone or email at 423-727-2685 or beggers@jocoed.net.  Thank you for the opportunity to work with your child and family.
